The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for pavement preservation in Ashford, Union, and Willington.
The project involves milling and overlaying on I-84 eastbound and westbound. The work on I-84 eastbound begins in Willington at the approach to Bridge No. 04296 (I-84 over Route 32 - River Road) (Mile Point 85.56), continues through Ashford and ends in Union at the Massachusetts State Line (Mile Point 97.9). The work on I-84 westbound begins in Union at the Massachusetts State Line (Mile Point 97.9), continues through Ashford and ends in Willington approximately 2,400 feet from the Exit 70 off ramp to Route 32 (River Road) (Mile Point 86.51). This project includes treatment of the on-ramps and off-ramps, and short-term off-peak detour routes will be implemented should ramps need to be closed for construction activities. This project will help the CTDOT achieve Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) goals, through pavement preservation treatments that extend the overall pavement life and improve pavement performance.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in November 2026, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with one hundred percent (100%) State funds.
It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community shares its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development.
