CTDOT Plans for a Computerized Traffic Signal Replacement Along Route 10 Southington

3/16/2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for a Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) Replacement project along Route 10 in Southington.

The project involves full replacement of the traffic signal equipment at nine (9) intersections and new fiber optic interconnect between the intersections. The intersections of interest are as follows:

  • Route 10 (Queen Street) at Flanders Street/Cemetery Driveway (Int. No. 131-239)
  • Route 10 (North Main Street) at Curtiss Street/Shopping Plaza Access Drive (Int. No. 131-210)
  • Route 10 (North Main Street) at Hobart Street (Int. No. 131-230)
  • Route 10 (North Main Street) at Mill Street (Int. No. 131-257)
  • Route 10 (North Main Street) at High Street and Merrell Street (Int. No. 131-209)
  • Route 10 (North Main Street) at Center Street and Riccio Way (Int. No. 131-208)
  • Route 10 (Main Street) at Columbus Avenue and Berlin Avenue (Int. No. 131-207)
  • Route 10 (Main Street) at Route 120 and School Access Drive (Int. No. 131-206)
  • Route 10 (Main Street) at Old Turnpike Road (Int. No. 131-205)

“The replacement of the Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) communications system will establish reliable fiber optic communication connections between the signalized intersections,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager John Lockaby. “This will allow for the implementation of advanced technologies to monitor traffic and reduce travel times.”

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in May 2027, with construction anticipated to start in the fall of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits.  This project will be undertaken with Federal and State funds.

It is CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community shares its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development.  If anyone has any questions or comments on this project, contact John W. Lockaby, Project Manager, at (860) 594-2719 or by e-mail at john.lockaby@ct.gov . Please refer to State Project No 0131-0213.
