CTDOT Is Developing Plans to Mill and Pave 23 Bridges in various town in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to mill and pave 23 bridges along Route 32, Route 6, Route 72 and I-84 in Willington, Tolland, Vernon, Coventry, Plainville and New Britain. This project will be part of state-wide bridge preservation program as follow up to pavement preservation projects with the purpose of repairing the bridge deck this extending their service life and keeping the structures in the state of good repair.

The project involves removing the bridge overlay and membrane, the necessary repairs to the bridge deck and applying new membrane and overlay as well as replacing the bridge joints.

The following locations are included:

  • Bridge No. 00937 carrying Route 32 over Roaring Brook in Willington
  • Bridge No. 00839 carrying I-84 over Skungamaug River in Tolland
  • Bridge No. 04276 carrying I-84 westbound over Route 31 in Vernon
  • Bridge No. 04277 carrying I-84 eastbound over Route 31 in Vernon
  • Bridge No. 02519 carrying Route 6 westbound over Hop River Trail in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02520 carrying Route 6 eastbound over Hop River Trail in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02553 carrying Route 6 westbound over Flanders River Road in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02554 carrying Route 6 eastbound over Flanders River Road in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02561 carrying Route 6 westbound over Willimantic River in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02562 carrying Route 6 eastbound over Willimantic River in Coventry
  • Bridge No. 02901 carrying Route 72 southbound over Route 10 in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 02901 carrying Route 72 northbound over Route 10 in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 02904 carrying Route 72 eastbound over Route 372 in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 02912 carrying Route 72 westbound over S.R. 555 (West Main Street) in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 02913 carrying Route 72 eastbound over S.R. 555 (West Main Street) in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 03403A carrying Route 72 northbound over Wooster Street in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 03403B carrying Route 72 southbound over Wooster Street in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 03404A carrying Route 72 northbound over Hartford Square in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 03404B carrying Route 72 southbound over Hartford Square in New Britain
  • Bridge No. 04312 carrying Route 72 over Pequabuck River in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 04314 carrying Route 72 over Camp Street in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 04315 carrying Route 72 over Route 177 in Plainville
  • Bridge No. 04316 carrying Route 72 over Route Cronk Road, Pan Am Railways and Pequabuck River in Plainville

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in August 2027, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 80% federal and 20% state funds.
