CTDOT is Developing Plans to Mill and Pave 13 Bridges in various town in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to mill and pave 13 bridges along Route 10, Route 67, Route 827 and Interstate-84 in Hamden, Roxbury, Waterbury and Kent. This project will be part of the state-wide bridge preservation program as follow up to pavement preservation projects with the purpose of repairing the bridge deck thus extending their service life and keeping the structures in the state of good repair.

The project involves removing the bridge overlay and membrane, the necessary repairs to the bridge deck and applying new membrane and overlay as well as replacing the bridge joints.

The following locations are included:

  • Bridge No. 06031 carrying Route 10 over Willow Brook in Hamden
  • Bridge No. 01044 carrying Route 67 over Second Hill Brook in Roxbury
  • Bridge No. 01224A carrying I-84 Eastbound and Exit 23 on-ramp over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 01224B carrying I-84 Westbound over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 01224C carrying I-84 Eastbound Exit 25 off-ramp over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 01229A carrying I-84 Eastbound over Pierpont Road in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 01229B carrying I-84 Westbound over Pierpont Road in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 05774A carrying I-84 Eastbound over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 05774B carrying I-84 Westbound over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 06284 carrying I-84 Eastbound Exit 25 ramp over Mad River in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 06580 carrying I-84 Westbound Exit 25A over Beaver Pond Brook in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 06590 carrying I-84 Eastbound Exit 23 on-ramp over I-84 Eastbound Exit 25 off-ramp in Waterbury
  • Bridge No. 01669 carrying S.R. 829, South Kent Road, over Housatonic Railroad in Kent

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in August 2027, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 80% federal and 20% state funds.

It is CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.
