CTDOT is Developing Plans to Mill and Pave 12 bridges in various towns in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to mill and pave 12 bridges along Route 6 and Route 156 in Columbia, Mansfield, Windham and Lyme. This project will be part of the state-wide bridge preservation program follow up to pavement preservation projects with the purpose of repairing the bridge deck thus extending their service life and keeping the structures in the state of good repair.

The project involves removing the bridge overlay and membrane, the necessary repairs to the bridge deck and applying new membrane and overlay as well as replacing the bridge joints.

The following locations are included:

  • Bridge No. 02517 carrying Route 6 Westbound over Hop River in Columbia
  • Bridge No. 02518 carrying Route 6 Eastbound over Hop River in Columbia
  • Bridge No. 02522 carrying Route 6 Eastbound over Mansfield City Road in Mansfield
  • Bridge No. 02526 carrying Route 6 Westbound over Mansfield City Road in Mansfield
  • Bridge No. 02563 carrying Route 6 Westbound over Natchaug River in Mansfield
  • Bridge No. 02568 carrying Route 6 Eastbound over Natchaug River in Mansfield
  • Bridge No. 02575 carrying Route 6 Westbound over New England Central Railroad in Windham
  • Bridge No. 02576 carrying Route 6 Eastbound over New England Central Railroad in Windham
  • Bridge No. 02578 carrying Route 6 Westbound over Route 32 in Windham
  • Bridge No. 02579 carrying Route 6 Eastbound over Route 32 in Windham
  • Bridge No. 05396 carrying Route 156 over Eight Mile River in Lyme
  • Bridge No. 05672 carrying Route 156 over East Branch of Eight Mile River in Lyme

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in August 2026, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2027, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 80% federal and 20% state funds.

It is CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.
