CTDOT Is Developing Plans for Upgrades to I-84 in Danbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to resurface the roadway, rehabilitate bridges, and upgrade roadside safety on both directions of travel along I-84 in Danbury.

The project involves the rehabilitation of existing pavement to extend its service life, upgrading roadside safety equipment, and repairing the existing stormwater drainage system as needed. This project also includes the replacement of the superstructures - Bridge Nos. 01181 & 01182 (I-84 east and westbound over the Housatonic Railroad).

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in the Fall of 2028, with construction anticipated to start in the Spring of 2029, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with ninety percent (90%) Federal and ten percent (10%) State funds.

It is the CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and important that the community share its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development.

If anyone has any questions or comments on this project, please contact Sebastian Cannamela, Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-2698 or by e-mail at Sebastian.Cannamela@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project No. 34-361.
