The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for the Pavement Preservation Project for the 2026 construction season, in Columbia, Coventry, Mansfield and Windham.
This project involves milling and overlay on Route 6 in Columbia, Coventry, Windham, and Mansfield, beginning in Columbia at the intersection of Route 66 (Middletown Road) (Eastbound Mile Point 87.78, Westbound Mile Point 87.81) and ending Eastbound in Windham at Route 66 (Boston Post Road) (Mile Point 93.14) and Westbound in Windham at the Route 6 on-ramp (Mile Point 93.37). This project includes treatment of the on-ramps and off-ramps, and detour routes will be provided should ramps need to be closed for construction activities. Sidewalk curb ramps are also being evaluated to meet ADA compliance as part of this project. The purpose of this project is to preserve and maintain the condition of the pavement, bringing it to a good state of repair. This project will help the CTDOT achieve Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) goals, through pavement preservation treatments that extend the overall pavement life and improve pavement performance.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in October 2025, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2026, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, receipt of any required right-of-way, and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with one hundred percent (100%) State funds.
It is the CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and important that the community share its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development.
