The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to rehabilitate and reconstruct the pavement on Route 8 in Seymour, Beacon Falls and Naugatuck.
The proposed improvements include mill and overlay of approximately 5.92 miles of existing pavement on Route 8, including the northbound and southbound as well as the ramps between Interchanges 22 and 26. Shoulder reconstruction will be performed in the areas of median barrier replacement. There are five structures (Bridge Nos. 04383, 04384, 04386, 04387, and 04388) which carry Route 8, that will require routine rehabilitation and parapet modifications. Proposed improvements will also include drainage modifications and crosswalk upgrades at the Route 8 southbound Exit 24 ramps. Upgrades will be made to the roadside safety appurtenances to meet the current design standards.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in the Fall of 2029, with construction anticipated to start in the Spring of 2030, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) Federal and twenty percent (20%) State funds.
It is the CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and important that the community share its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development.
