The Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to replace signs and sign supports along Interstate 91 from the Windsor/Windsor Locks town line to the Massachusetts state line, as well as along the limited-access section of CT Route 190 in Enfield and Suffield. The new signs and sign supports will be installed in accordance with the latest Federal and State standards and guidelines. The types of signs that will be replaced include, but are not limited to, large overhead and side mounted guide signs and on-ramp entrance signs.

The existing signs have exceeded their useful service life and are in need of replacement.  The scope of the project involves the replacement of only those signs that have exceeded their useful service life, have less than adequate retroreflectivity, have evidence of damage, or are no longer in compliance with Federal and State standards and guidelines.  Excluded from this project are signs that have been recently replaced or are scheduled to be replaced by other various construction projects.

“Replacing the signs improves visibility and legibility for drivers, making the signs easier to see at night,” said CTDOT Project Manager Barry Schilling.

The design plans for the project are expected to be completed in the spring of 2025 with construction commencing in the fall of 2025.

It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken, and that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. Anyone interested in requesting information on this project may do so by contacting Barry Schilling, Supervising Engineer, Barry.Schilling@ct.gov .  Please make reference to Project Number 0171-0482.
