The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will begin construction this summer on the I-95 Interchange 43 Improvements Project. Before construction kicks off, CTDOT will be hosting a construction open house on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the West Haven City Hall in the Community Room at 355 Main St in West Haven. The open house will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. by CTDOT team members about the status of the design and construction phases of the project. The formal presentation will also be available virtually on Zoom at 6:00 p.m. To attend on Zoom, click here.

“The purpose of this project is to reduce traffic congestion, enhance traffic flow, and increase safety at I-95 Interchange at Exits 43 in West Haven,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Steven Herbert. “We encourage the community and the traveling public to attend this open house to learn more about the project and share their concerns with the construction team.”

The project involves reconstructing I-95 at Interchange 43 and replacing two bridges carrying I-95 that are in poor condition—First Avenue and over the MetroNorth Railroad tracks.

The design phase of the project is currently in progress and will be completed summer 2024. Construction of the new bridges is expected to start shortly after completion of the design phase and will continue until 2027.

During the demolition of the existing bridges and construction of the new bridges, the I-95 Northbound Interchange 43 entrance ramp will be closed. Traffic that enters I-95 northbound at this location will be rerouted onto other state-owned roadways in the West Haven and New Haven, utilizing the I-95 Northbound Interchange 44 entrance ramp. Detours will begin in spring 2025 and will be in place for the remainder of construction.

Individuals with limited internet access can listen to the meeting by calling (646) 558-8656 and enter Meeting ID 954 6392 3175 and Passcode 300184. Non-English language closed captioning will be available on Zoom. The recording will also be posted immediately following the meeting in the list of CTDOT virtual public meetings at portal.ct.gov/ctdotVPIMarchive.

Individuals with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). Individuals with limited internet access may also request that project information be mailed to them within one week by contacting Steven Hebert at steven.hebert@ct.gov or (203) 389-3154.

Language assistance may be requested by contacting the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five business days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.
