The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting customers of the upcoming temporary train service adjustment effective Saturday, May 18, 2024, through mid-August 2024, on the Hartford Line (HL). This service adjustment is to accommodate the continuous outages on Amtrak’s Hell Gate Line in New York City to support the Penn Station Access (PSA) project. The PSA project is intended to enable Metro-North trains to use the Hell Gate Line to connect to the west side of Manhattan and into Penn Station, ultimately expanding traveling options for Connecticut passengers.

Please note that these adjustments may alter train schedules by as much as 25 minutes, connecting trains may differ, and may impact boarding assignments at station platforms.

Trains with significant schedule adjustments include:

Weekday to Hartford and Springfield

  • Amtrak 494 departing New Haven Union Station at 8:10 p.m., 25 minutes later.
  • Amtrak 148 departing New Haven Union Station at 9:02 p.m., 12 minutes later.

Weekday to New Haven

  • Amtrak 141 departing Springfield Station at 4:30 a.m., 15 minutes earlier.

Weekend to Hartford and Springfield

  • Amtrak 140 departing New Haven Union Station at 6:43 p.m., 17 minutes later.

Weekend to New Haven

  • Amtrak 497 departing Springfield Station at 7:17 p.m., 13 minutes earlier.

“When completed, the Penn Station Access project is going to unlock additional travel options for Connecticut customers, which is great news,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer. “These schedule adjustments are needed to ensure the project moves forward. We appreciate the public’s patience as the PSA project continues.”

Additionally, select trains have minor adjustments earlier or later than the current departure and arrival times. Please see the May 18 schedule for details.

Passengers can find the latest Hartford Line schedule here and are encouraged to visit HartfordLine.com or Amtrak.com for the latest service information and scheduled departure times.

Riders can also sign up for alerts sent directly to their phone or email at HartfordLine.com/service-alerts. Don’t forget to review your preferences to ensure you receive the most up-to-date information for your travels. Preferences may need updating after each schedule change.
