The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that the west staircase at the Harbor Yard Parking Garage in Bridgeport will open to the public on Monday, April 1. The west stairs closest to the entrance to the Total Mortgage Arena have been closed since the Fall of 2022 due to safety concerns when inspectors noticed concrete deterioration.
CTDOT owns the parking garage, located at 700 Main St., and initiated an emergency replacement project for the west staircase. This project included removing the entire staircase, replacing it with a new precast structure, and upgrading the existing lighting. The new staircase is also now enclosed with glass, matching the existing east staircase, which provides protection from the elements.
“I thank the CTDOT and contractor teams who worked hard on this emergency project. It’s great news to see it open on schedule, under budget, and in time for a busy spring season of events in the area,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto.
The Transit Garage at Harbor Yard is used by the public who are attending events at the neighboring Total Mortgage Arena, the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, and commuters using the public transit available in the area.
