The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that overnight road closures of Route 82 over the Connecticut River (East Haddam Swing Bridge) will occur from April 24, 2023 to May 26, 2023.
Overnight road closures will occur Monday through Friday nights beginning April 24, 2023, and running through May 26, 2023. The overnight closures Monday through Friday will be implemented per the following schedule:
- Monday into Tuesday 7:00 pm to 6:00 am
- Tuesday into Wednesday 7:00 pm to 6:00 am
- Wednesday into Morning 11:00 pm to 6:00 am
- Thursday into Friday 11:00 pm to 6:00 am
- Friday into Morning 11:30 pm to 8:00 am
Be advised that Saturday and Sunday night closures could occur if weekday nights are cancelled due to inclement weather. Weekend Closures will be implemented per the following schedule:
Weekend Closures times from April 24, 2023 to May 26, 2023:
- Saturday Evening into Sunday Morning 11:30 pm to 8:00 am
- Sunday Evening into Monday Morning 10:00 pm to 6:00 am
DOT Project No. 0041-0141 was awarded to American Bridge Company at a cost of $55,255,000 on June 7, 2022. It is scheduled to be completed February 25, 2025. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Unless otherwise communicated, there will be full bridge closures to vehicular traffic over the Connecticut River (Route 82) Monday through Friday nights starting on April 24, 2023 to May 26, 2023. Road closures will follow the schedule above.

Route 82 Eastbound
From Route 82 East, traffic will be detoured onto Route 9 South to I-95 North to Route 156 North to Route 82 West.
Route 82 Westbound
From Route 82 West, traffic will be detoured onto Route 156 South to I-95 South (across the Baldwin Bridge) to Route 9 North to Route 82 East.
