Start of Construction Work on Routes 74 and 175 in Tolland, Willington, Newington, and Wethersfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the start of construction work on Routes 74 and 175 in Tolland, Willington, Newington, and Wethersfield will begin May 9, 2022.

As part of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Pavement Preservation Program, sections of CT Route 74 in Tolland and Willington, and CT Route 175 in Newington and Wethersfield, have been identified for the below repairs during the 2022 construction season. The project limits for CT Route 74 begins at mile markers 14.64 and end at mile markers 17.35 (total of 2.71 miles) and limits for CT Route 175 begins at mile markers 3.01 and end at mile markers 6.15 (total of 3.14 miles).

The project consists of fine milling and ultra-thin bonded polymer modified asphalt paving, resetting, and replacing catch basin tops, partial depth patching, crack sealing, rumble strips, epoxy resin pavement markings. A new vehicle detection system will be installed at the following intersection:

  • Route 175 Wells Road at Mapleside Drive and School Drive (Intersection No. 159-226) in Wethersfield.
  • Route 175 Wells Road at Wolcott Hill Road (Intersection No. 159-213) in Wethersfield.
  • Route 99 Silas Dean Highway at Route 175 Wells Road and Wells Road (Intersection No. 159-222) in Wethersfield.

 

DOT Project No. 0171-0475 was awarded to Tilcon Connecticut, Inc at a cost of $1,949,907.40 on March 31, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed November 17, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO:

Alternating one-way traffic will be allowed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 6 a.m., Saturday and Sunday between 6 p.m. – 1 a.m. The Contractor will maintain and protect a minimum of one lane of traffic on a paved travel path not less than 11 feet in width.
