5/03/2022

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Interstate 91 Northbound Exit 29 will open its dedicated lanes for the final alignment beginning on Monday May 2, 2022.

For the first time, I-91 Northbound Exit 29 has its own dedicated lanes, almost two miles long, beginning approximately 3/4 miles north of the Route 3 overpass, as part of the I-91 Charter Oak Bridge Project. The result of this is that I-91 Northbound now has three unobstructed lanes through the interchange area.

Although the “Construction Buster” project still has a considerable amount of paving and other work remaining, I-91 Northbound is now able to handle the large volumes of traffic for which it was designed.

CTDOT Project Number 0063-0703 and 0159-0191 was awarded to O&G / BHD, Joint Venture at a cost of $212 million. Work began on April 1, 2019 and is anticipated to be totally complete by October 18, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Hartford, CT.
