Scheduled Months-Long Closure of Route 14 over the Moosup River in Sterling Beginning on May 3, 2021

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of Route 14 over the Moosup River in Sterling from May 3, 2021, through September 22, 2021.  The closure is necessary to facilitate ongoing construction activities associated with the replacement of Bridge 00688 carrying Route 14 over the Moosup River.

Route 14, at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street, will be detoured while the demolition and construction of the new bridge is performed.

Detour Information

Route 14 East:

  • Proceed on Route 14 west to the intersection of Route 12 in Plainfield. Take a left onto Route 12 and proceed south to the intersection of Route 14A. Take a left onto Route 14A and proceed east towards the intersection of Route 14.

Route 14 West:

  • Proceed on Route 14 east to the intersection of Route 14A. Take a right onto Route 14A and proceed west to the intersection of Interstate 395. Take the ramp to Interstate 395 northbound and proceed to Exit 32. Proceed east on Route 14.

DOT Project 0136-0073 was awarded to New England Road Inc. at a cost of $1,908,168.11 on December 10, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2021.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
