The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction, on or about April 1, 2021, for the project to replace Bridge 03240 carrying Route 69 over Mad River in Wolcott.
Bridge 03240 was originally constructed in 1900. The existing superstructure is rated in poor condition based on inspection reports and is in need of replacement. This project will replace the existing bridge with precast substructure elements along with a pre-cast bridge unit (PBU) superstructure.
DOT Project No. 0166-0103 was awarded to Guerrera Construction Co., of Oxford, CT at a cost of $2,434,417.40 on January 5, 2021, and is scheduled to be completed on September 19, 2021.
Lane Closure Information:
Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 69 (Wolcott Road), MacCormack Drive, and Hillside Drive Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM, as well as Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 PM – 10:00 AM.
Road Closure and Detour information:
Construction activities will necessitate Route 69 be closed for two weekends for the installation of micropiles and an additional long-duration closure for the actual bridge replacement. A 5-mile detour utilizing Sharon Road, Woodtick Road, and Center Street will be implemented during the closures. The three anticipated milestone closures are:
- Micropile Installation Weekend No. 1 (Milestone 1): A maximum of 58 consecutive hours is permitted for the closure of Route 69 and Bridge 03240 between April 30, 2021 and June 11, 2021. The closure will be a weekend closure which is permitted from any Friday, 8:00 p.m. through Monday, 6:00 a.m. period between the aforementioned dates. Advance notification will be provided before any scheduled closures.
- Micropile Installation Weekend No. 2 (Milestone 2): A maximum of 58 consecutive hours is permitted for the closure of Route 69 and Bridge 03240 between May 6, 2021 and June 18, 2021. The closure will be a weekend closure which is permitted from any Friday, 8:00 p.m. through Monday, 6:00 a.m. period between the aforementioned dates and after the Milestone 1 completion date. Advance notification will be provided before any scheduled closures.
- Bridge Replacement (Long Duration Closure, Milestone 3): A maximum of 60 consecutive days is permitted for the closure of Route 69 and Bridge 03240 beginning on June 28, 2021, and ending on August 26, 2021. Advance notification will be provided prior to the closure.
