The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction activities for the rehabilitation of Bridge 01686B (I-84 EB Exit 52 to I-91SB) over US 44 EB & Columbus Boulevard in Hartford.
The project consist of removing the existing pavement surface, repairing the deck and substructure, repairing existing parapets and bridge rail, installing new membrane waterproofing and a bituminous concrete wearing surface, replacing existing expansion joints, structural steel repairs, painting beam ends and pier cap, and removing concrete haunches.
A long-term closure of I-84 Exit 52 to I-91 southbound will be implemented from April 12, 2021, to June 6, 202, to facilitate construction activities. Advance notification will be issued for the ramp closure with detour information.
DOT Project No. 0063-0654 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $5,289,773.40 on January 14, 2021, and is scheduled to be completed on October 22, 2021.
Lane Closure Information
Columbus Boulevard:
- The left two lanes of Columbus Boulevard between Morgan Street and Talcott Street will be closed starting March 4, 2021 until October 22, 2021.
Route 44 (Morgan Street South):
- Expect daytime temporary lane closures between 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.
- Expect nighttime temporary lane closures between 6 P.M. to 6 A.M.
I-84 Eastbound between Exits 46 and 53:
- Expect nighttime temporary lane closures between 7 P.M. to 4 A.M.
