10/08/2020

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the proposed Stamford Railroad Station Escalator and Elevator Replacement Project on October 28th, 2020. The formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Refer to the project webpage for more detail: http://portal.ct.gov/DOTStamford0301-0507.

The project is identified as State Project No. 0301-0507.

The purpose of the project is to modernize Stamford Railroad Station’s hydraulic elevators 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7, upgrading the critical components in order for them to be able to interface with new technology, increase performance, improve safety, and update the aesthetics and appearance. Escalators 1 through 17 at the facility will also be modernized, replacing all the mechanical equipment while reutilizing the existing truss structures, improving performance, increasing efficiency, and adding up-to-date safety features from the latest available technology. Elevator 10 and Escalator 18 were constructed new in 2018, and are not part of this project’s scope of work.

Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2021 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $30 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with federal and state funds.

The public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. Persons with limited internet access may request that project information is mailed to them by contacting Yure Kuljis by email at Yure.Kuljis@CT.Gov (Allow one week for processing and delivery).

Individuals with limited internet access can listen to the meeting by calling 800-369-1922 and entering the Participant Code when prompted: 3541879. Persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). The MS Teams Live Event offers closed-captioning for the hearing impaired and non-English translation options. A recording of the formal presentation will be posted to YouTube following the event and closed-captioning (including non-English translation options) will be available at that time. The recording will also be available in the list of DOT virtual public meetings here: https://portal.ct.gov/dot/general/CTDOT-VPIM-Library.
