The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the start of Stage 2A in the replacement of bridge carrying I-95 and Route 1 Ramp over South Frontage Road and the I-95 northbound Exit 83 ramp in New London starting on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Stage 2A consists of installing girders for the new bridge deck. This work is scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 11 and be completed on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Project 0094-0264 consists of full replacement of the bridge superstructure and substructure, drainage improvements, roadway realignment, and upgrades to traffic signals.
CTDOT Project No. 0094-0264 was awarded to ROTHA Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $13,994,598.39 on March 26, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
There will be temporary night-time closures of the I-95 Exit 83 ramp and of South Frontage Road from Tuesday, August 11 to Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. During roadway closures traffic detours with signing patterns will be provided to maintain traffic around the project site.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
