The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that, beginning August 16, 2026, the Route 2 westbound Exit 22 on-ramp from Old Hartford Road in Colchester will be closed on a nightly basis between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The ramp closure is required for rehabilitation work on Route 2.
Roadway and bridge rehabilitation work is being performed on Route 2 in Colchester between Mileposts 20.37 and 24.94 (Exit 20 and 25). This project began on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed on August 10, 2027. The Project 0028-0211 consists of pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound Route 2 roadway, drainage modifications, safety improvements to upgrade guiderail to current standards, and rehabilitation and improvements to the various bridges within the Project limits.
CTDOT Project No. 0028-0211 was awarded at an original cost of $43,699,900.00 on January 6, 2025, work is being performed by Tilcon CT and is scheduled to be completed August 10, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Route 2 westbound through the area will be reduced to a single lane with traffic shifted toward the median. Traffic seeking to use the on-ramp from Old Hartford Road will be detoured to Exit 23 on-ramp via Old Hartford Road, Broadway, and Linwood Ave.
There will be various night-time lane closures on Route 2 between Exits 20 and 25. Eastbound night-time lane closures may occur Monday through Thursday between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and Friday between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Westbound night-time lane closures may occur Monday through Friday between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Traffic control signing patterns with State Troopers will guide motorists through the work zone.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
