Rehabilitation of Bridge Carrying Route 15 Northbound over the Quinnipiac River in Wallingford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that starting August 23, 2026, lane closures, lane shifts, lane realignments and other traffic pattern modifications will take place on Route 15 in Wallingford to allow for the rapid replacement of the Bridge Superstructure for Bridge 00793A (Route 15 northbound over the Quinnipiac River.

The rehabilitation of Bridge 00793A, Route 15 over the Quinnipiac River in Wallingford began in March 2025. The project consists of the replacement of the northbound superstructure, minor repairs to the substructure, and scour protection in the Quinnipiac River channel.

CTDOT Project No. 0148-0213 was awarded to ROTHA Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $10,381,331 on December 13, 2024. and is scheduled to be completed November 9, 2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

 

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

Beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, lane realignments will begin on Route 15. During this period, motorists should anticipate fluctuating lane closures on both northbound and southbound Route 15 to allow for the shifting of lane markings. This work will continue into the pre-dawn hours of Monday, August 24, 2026.

By 6:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026 it is anticipated that all traffic realignments will be completed, and the crossover configuration will be established. The configuration will remain in effect continuously until 5:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2026. During this seven-day period, the number of lanes on Route 15 will be reduced to one northbound lane and one southbound lane in the vicinity of the project, with Route 15 northbound shifted onto southbound portion of the highway.

Segments of Route 15, Route 5 and various local roads in Wallingford will be impacted by this project. Motorists should expect delays and should plan accordingly. Advisory signs will be in place 14 days prior to the crossover period encouraging motorists to seek an alternate route, primarily I-91.

In addition to the traffic impacts created by the crossover, Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday during the 2026 construction season.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
