As a part of the ongoing improvements to traffic flow and safety in Middletown, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing intermittent traffic holds that will take place on Route 9 north and southbound between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to provide access for necessary construction activities beginning on Monday, April 6 and Thursday, April 16, 2026.
CTDOT Project No. 0082-0316 was awarded to Middlesex Construction at a cost of $50,426,231.20 on February 10, 2023, and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Traffic will be impacted by intermittent traffic holds on Route 9 between Exits 22 and 24 from Monday, April 6 to Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The traffic holds will consist of rolling roadblocks of up to 10 minutes to allow heavy construction vehicles to enter and exit the median work zone. All lanes will be open during the April 3 and 5, 2026 holiday period.
Motorists should expect delays due to ongoing construction and should allow extra travel time due to intermittent traffic holds. Note that the schedule is subject to change due to weather or construction activity.
