Installation and Revision of Traffic Control Signals in Various Towns in Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a revision of traffic control signals, improvements at grade crossing and intersections project will begin in Clinton, Griswold, Groton, Mansfield, Montville, North Stonington, Norwich, Portland, Stonington and Essex starting the week of June 15, 2026.

Numerous locations throughout Eastern Connecticut will receive traffic control signal, intersection, and grade crossing improvements. Locations included are:

  • Route 81 (Killingworth Turnpike) at Glenwood Road & Commuter Lot Driveway, Clinton
  • Route 12 (Main Street) at Route 138 (Slater Avenue) & South Main Street, Griswold
  • Route 12 (Main Street) at Ashland Street & Tracy Avenue, Griswold
  • Route 12 at Walker Hill Road & Toll Gate Road, Groton
  • Route 12 at Crystal Lake Road, Groton
  • U.S. Route 6 WB On-Ramp at Route 633 (South Frontage Road) & Mansfield City Road, Mansfield
  • U.S. Route 6 WB On-Ramp at Route 632 (North Frontage Road) & Mansfield City Road, Mansfield
  • Route 632 (North Frontage Road) at Conantville Road & U.S. Route 6 WB Off-Ramp, Mansfield
  • Route 32 (Norwich – New London Turnpike) at Massapeag Road, Montville
  • Route 2 (Norwich – Westerly Road) at Route 201 (Main Crossing Road), North Stonington
  • Route 165 (Hamilton Avenue) at Smith Avenue & Private Driveway, Norwich
  • Route 642 (West Town Street) at Route 2 EB Ramps, Norwich
  • Route 66 (Portland – Cobalt Road) at Route 17 (Gospel Lane), Portland
  • U.S. Route 1 at Big Y Driveway & 80 Stonington – Westerly Road Driveway, Stonington
  • Route 154 (Middlesex Turnpike and South Main Street) at Town Dump Road and Route 9 NB Exit 5 Ramps, Essex

CTDOT Project No. 0172-0525 was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors at a cost of $6,779,900.00 on October 31, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed October 30, 2027.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

 

LANE SHIFT INFO

There will be alternating one-way traffic patterns occurring to facilitate motorists through the various work zones. Lane closures are expected to begin the week of June 15, 2026. Traffic control devices, such as advance warning signs, drums, and cones will guide motorists through the work zones.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays and/or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work sites.
