Closure of Route 2 Lanes in Colchester

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that, beginning September 1, 2026, the Route 2 westbound right lane in the area of the Exit 23 on-ramp from Route 16/Middletown Road/Linwood Avenue will be closed on a long-term basis. Additionally, Route 2 eastbound left lane in the area of Exit 20 will be closed. The lane closures are required for rehabilitation work on Route 2 bridges over Wall Street and Route 149/Westchester Road.

Route 2 at the above locations will be reduced to a single lane. The nearby ramps will remain open during this bridge work. Roadway and bridge rehabilitation work is being performed on Route 2 Eastbound and Westbound in Colchester between Mileposts 20.37 and 24.94 (new Exits 20 and 25). This project began on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed on August 10, 2027. The Project 0028-0211 consists of pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound Route 2 roadway, drainage modifications, safety improvements to upgrade guiderail to current standards, and rehabilitation and improvements to the various bridges within the Project limits.

CTDOT Project No. 0028-0211 was awarded at an original cost of $43,699,900.00 on January 6, 2025, work is being performed by Tilcon CT and is scheduled to be completed August 10, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

 

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

Beginning September 1, 2026, the Route 2 westbound right lane in the area of the Exit 23 on-ramp from Route 16/Middletown Road/Linwood Avenue will be closed on a long-term basis. Additionally, Route 2 eastbound left lane in the area of Exit 20 will be closed.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
