The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that preventative maintenance, and testing will take place at the wrong-way detection system in Groton. This project is scheduled to occur starting on Monday evening, October 13, 2025
The following locations are included:
- I-95 southbound at the Exit 88 off-ramp to Route 117
- Route 349 southbound at the Exit 3 off-ramp to Route 1
- Route 349 northbound at the Exit 3A off-ramp to Route 1
- Route 184 northbound at the Exit 1 off-ramp to Route 12
The Wrong-Way Detection System uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong-way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong-way driver on the ramp.

RAMP CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Motorists can expect a temporary ramp closures at the above locations in Groton starting on Monday evening, October 13, 2025. Traffic will follow the posted detours and advised to seek alternate routes. Crash attenuator vehicles and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The nighttime work schedule for this project is from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Monday – Friday.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
