The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing roadway safety improvements for all road users on Route 1 in Fairfield. This project is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 23 and is expected to be completed in December 2025.
Within the limits of this project, Route 1 will be restriped from a 4-lane roadway to a 3-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane. The project will be predominately implemented through resurfacing Route 1 and restriping the corridor. The project includes additional improvements, such as traffic control signal adjustments and upgrades, minor sidewalk ramp modifications, curb improvements and storm drainage structure top replacements.
The work is being performed by Waters Construction Company.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 1 from Pease Avenue to Beaumont Street in Fairfield beginning on Friday, May 23, 2025. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The work schedule for this project is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
