The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Replacement of Bridge No. 07036 will be performed on Route 138 in Griswold. This project is scheduled to be completed on Friday, November 28, 2025.
The project 0057-0122 consists of replacing the existing culvert with a 9-foot span by 8-foot rise precast box culvert in place of the existing pipe culvert. Invert of the box will be buried under 1’ of natural streambed material. Installation of new headwalls, wingwalls, cutoff walls, and return walls at the inlet and outlet as well as the installation of a preformed scour hole at the outlet and a riprap pad at the inlet. Construction has temporary and permanent impacts to
wetlands. Overhead utilities are permanently being moved from the south side of the road to the north side.
CTDOT Project No. 0057-0122 was awarded to The Brunalli Construction Company, Inc at a cost of $3,020,333.17 on September 20, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed November 28, 2025. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Motorists can expect one lane alternating traffic with the use of flaggers as well as the installation of temporary traffic signals on Route 138.
Route 138 will be closed to through traffic starting Friday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. and reopened no later than Monday, May 4, 2025 at 6:00 a.m. Traffic will be detoured with appropriate signage.
Traffic travelling southbound on Route 138 will take a left onto Route 165 in Voluntown and follow for 7 miles to Route 164 in Preston. Take a right onto Route 164 and follow 4.7 miles to Route 138.
Traffic travelling northbound on Route 138 will take a right onto Route 164 in Griswold and follow for 4.7 miles to Route 165 in Preston. Take a left onto Route 165 and follow for 7 miles to Route 138 in Voluntown.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
