The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the start of construction for the repairs to Route 123 at the New Canaan Avenue grade crossing began on October 10, 2025.
The purpose and need for the project are to make repairs to Route 123 at the New Canaan Avenue grade crossing where the roadway elevation is too high east of the railroad crossing and too low west of the crossing. This is causing a very short transition at the crossing causing difficulty for motor vehicles. The contractor will need to perform repairs, including roadway reconstruction, sidewalk reconstruction, driveway reconstruction, and regrading slopes onto private property. Project 0302-0031 has been initiated as a high priority project with an accelerated schedule. It is anticipated to be completed by December 2025.
CTDOT Project No. 0302-0031 was assigned to Waters Construction Co. Inc., at an estimated cost to be determined. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.
