UPDATED: Ramp Closures on Route 8 in Shelton and Derby

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that an Emergency Declaration has been declared for the Commodore Hull Bridge (Bridge No. 00571) which carries Route 8 over the Housatonic River and Route 110 in Shelton and Derby on May 30, 2025. As part of the Emergency Declaration Project, the Exit 12A Route 8 northbound on-ramp and Exit 12B Route 8 southbound on-ramp will be closed starting on June 4, 2025 until to further notice. These closures will allow the coordination of lane shifts in order to maintain two lanes of traffic on Route 8 when the contractor is not working. A bridge load restriction of 32 tons for all vehicles is also in effect.

The following detours have been established:

Route 8 Southbound Detour
Vehicles shall take Exit 12B (Old Exit 15) Route 34. Take a left onto Route 34 (Main Street). Continue on Main Street which turns into Roosevelt Drive.  Then take a left onto Bridge Street.  Continue on Bridge Street and take a left onto Howe Avenue.  Take a right onto Center Avenue which turns into Bridgeport Avenue. Continue on Bridgeport Avenue and take the on ramp to Route 8 southbound on the right.

Route 8 Northbound Detour
Vehicles shall take Exit 12A (Old Exit 14) and then take a left onto Howe Avenue.  Continue on Howe Avenue and take a right onto Bridge Street.  Continue on Bridge Street and take a right onto Main Street (Route 34).  Follow Main Street to the Exit 15 on-ramp to Route 8 northbound on the right.
