Pavement Preservation Program on I91 in Hartford and Windsor

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a pavement preservation program will be performed on I-91 in Hartford and Windsor. This project is scheduled to occur on Sunday, April 13 and be completed on Friday, November 15, 2025. The project 0063-0740 consists of Milling of 5.4-mile section of I-91, surface patching, joint and crack filling with various improvements to road appurtenances.

CTDOT Project No. 0063-0740 was awarded to Empire Paving Inc. at a cost of $21,129,776.81 on March 24 and is scheduled to be completed November 15, 2025. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Cromwell.

 

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

There will be various intermittent lane closures on I-91 northbound and southbound from April 13 to November 15, 2025, Sundays through Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Traffic control signing patterns, state troopers, municipal police, and flaggers will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.

In addition, various on and off-ramps for this I-91 termini (including Exits 33, 34, 35, 36 and the HOV) may be closed to support milling and paving operations. Traffic will be detoured to the nearest ramp, following clearly marked detour signs with temporary traffic control. State troopers, municipal police, and flaggers will assist in guiding motorists safely through the associated ramp detours.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
