February Rock Ledge Blasting on I95 in East Lyme

1/29/2025

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that, to facilitate construction work associated with the I-95 East Lyme project in East Lyme, rock ledge blasting needs to occur within the north and southbound median due to the extensive cuts to bring the new interstate to grade. The blasting activity will occur starting Tuesday, February 4 through Thursday, February 7, 2025. I-95 north and southbound will be closed twice a day between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for up to 10 minutes for each blast. During this time, motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour.

Detour

I-95 Northbound Detour: Motorists should take Exit 74 and continue on Route 161 north, turn right onto Route 1, follow Route 1 for a quarter mile and turn left onto I-95 northbound on-ramp.

I-95 Southbound Detour: Motorist should take Exit 75, follow Route 1 to Route 161 south to access the I-95 southbound on-ramp.

CTDOT Project No. 0044-0156 was awarded to Manafort Brothers Inc. at a cost of $148,299,008.15 on January 31, 2023, and is scheduled to be completed on November 30, 2026.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

CTDOT is working to inform motorists and local residents of current and upcoming construction activities through project newsletters, press notices, travel alerts, social media, as well as the project website, https://i-95eastlyme.com/.  If you have any questions related to construction, please contact us at info@i-95eastlyme.com.
