Bridge Replacements on I-95 and Over South Frontage Road and Exit 83 Ramp in New London

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the replacement of Bridge No. 02572 will be performed on U.S. Route 1, South Frontage Road, and Interstate 95 northbound Exit 83 ramp in New London. This project is scheduled to occur on Monday, June 2, 2025, and be completed on Monday, November 30, 2026.  Project 0094-0264 consists of full replacement of the bridge superstructure and substructure, drainage improvements, roadway realignment, and upgrades to traffic signals.

CTDOT Project No. 0094-0264 was awarded to ROTHA Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $13,994,598.39 on March 26th, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

 

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

There will be temporary nighttime closures of the I-95 Exit 83 ramp and of South Frontage Road. Roadway closures of South Frontage Road are anticipated during the temporary realignment (approximately 21 consecutive nights) and during final realignment (approximately 60 consecutive nights). I-95 Exit 83 ramp will be closed for 10 total nights during demolition of the existing bridge and erection of the new bridge. During roadway closures traffic detours will be provided to maintain traffic around the project site.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
