LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
There will be lane closures across one of three lanes of I-91 southbound at a time through the work zone for the duration of the project. The project will be constructed in three stages. Stage 1 construction will begin on March 10, 2025, with Stage 3 construction scheduled to be completed in September 2026.
The State Street on-ramp to I-91 southbound at the Founders Bridge will be closed for the duration of the project to facilitate the temporary traffic patterns on I-91 southbound during staged construction. Detours will be posted to direct motorists seeking I-91 southbound to use either the South Morgan Street on-ramp to I-91 southbound at Columbus Boulevard, or the Sheldon Street on-ramp to the Whitehead Highway at Columbus Boulevard where they can access I-91 southbound.
Motorists on I-84 eastbound seeking I-91 southbound will be required to merge with I-91 southbound traffic due to the temporary traffic patterns on I-91 southbound during staged construction. Currently, I-84 eastbound motorists entering I-91 southbound traffic have a dedicated lane provided.
Temporary nighttime lane closures are also expected on I-91 southbound during the project from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Temporary daytime shoulder closures are also expected on I-91 southbound during the project from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Traffic control signing patterns, along with State Troopers during temporary lane and shoulder closures as needed will guide motorists through the work zone.
