The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing wrong way detection installations on I-91 southbound Exit 8 in New Haven, southbound Exit 1 in North Haven and northbound Exit 15 in Derby beginning on July 31, 2024.
Project 170-3608 involves the installation of wrong way detection systems to reduce wrong way crashes on high-risk freeway exit ramps.
CTDOT Project No. 170-3608 was awarded to Ferguson Electric Co., Inc. at a cost of $1,827,462.00 on October 12, 2022 and is scheduled to be completed August 4, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

I-91 Southbound Exit 8 in New Haven
The I-91 southbound Exit 8 off-ramp in New Haven will be closed to traffic beginning on July 31, 2024. Southbound traffic will be advised to get off at Exit 7 and take I-91 northbound to Exit 8 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
I-91 Southbound Exit 1 in North Haven
The Route 40 southbound Exit 1 off-ramp in North Haven will be closed to traffic beginning on July 31, 2024. Southbound traffic will be advised to follow the detour signs to come back to Exit 1 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
I-91 Northbound Exit 15 in Derby
The Route 8 northbound Exit 15 off-ramp in Derby will be closed to traffic beginning on July 31, 2024. Northbound traffic will be advised to get off at Exit 17 and take Route 8 southbound to Exit 15 from 7:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
