Safety Improvements on I-95 Southbound in Groton, Stonington, and North Stonington

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that road work will start on I-95 southbound in Groton, Stonington, and North Stonington on April 1, 2024.

Project 0058-0307 is an approximately 11.5-mile section of I-95 southbound from Interchange 89 to the Rhode Island state line, passing through the towns of Groton, Stonington, and North Stonington.

 The purpose of this project is to improve safety along I-95 southbound.

The scope of work consists of upgrading guiderail to current standard MASH compliant railing, upgrading roadway illumination, and ancillary bridge modifications to accept new MASH railing and install safety fencing. The southbound highway main lines and ramps will also be resurfaced.

CTDOT Project No. 0058-0307 was awarded to Empire Paving at a cost of $36.93 Million on January 26, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed November 29, 2025.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

There will be lane closures on I-95 southbound, Sunday night through Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
