The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Bridge No. 01386 over Back River will be replaced during this construction season located on Route 154 in Old Saybrook from September 3 until November 26, 2024. Project 105-215 consists of the full replacement of State bridge No. 01386 in Old Saybrook. This will involve the relocation of existing utilities in order to perform the work for replacement of the bridge. A new bridge consisting of precast substructure elements and prestressed concrete deck slabs will be constructed. The overhead utilities to be relocated this season will be permanently relocated to approximately the same location after the bridge is constructed. A new 12” watermain will be installed as part of the bridge construction.
CTDOT Project No. 0105-0209 was awarded to Brunalli Construction Company at a cost of $2,720,899.75 on February 13, 2024 and is scheduled to be completed December 12, 2024. This project is administered by the Division of Construction Operations – District 2, Norwich.

The closure will take place on this project from September 3, 2024, until November 26, 2024. Detour signs will be posted. During this time, traffic will not be able to cross the bridge.
DETOUR INFO:
To get to the south side of the bridge from the north side, travel north of the bridge on Route 154 for 0.7 miles. Turn right onto Old Boston Post Road and travel for 0.7 miles to Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and travel for 0.5 miles to Maple Avenue. Turn right onto Maple Avenue and continue for 1.3 miles until Route 154 is reached. Turn right onto Route 154 and follow for 1.2 miles until the other side of the bridge is reached.
To get to the north side of the bridge from the south side, travel south of the bridge on Route 154 for 1.2 miles. Turn left onto Maple Avenue and continue 1.3 miles. Turn left onto Main Street and continue 0.5 miles. Turn left onto Old Boston Post Road and continue for 0.7 miles. Turn left again onto Route 154 and follow for 0.7 miles until the other side of the bridge is reached.
