Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 06891 Carrying I-91 Southbound Over Unnamed Brook in Middletown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the start of work on Route 91 southbound approximately 1.75 miles north of I-691 beginning on April 8, 2024. The purpose of the project is to address the structural deficiencies and hydraulic inadequacy of the existing culvert. The culvert was originally installed in 1962 and today has an average daily traffic of 59,000 vehicles, 15% of them being trucks. Extensive heavy rust with deep pitting and deformation at the crown of the pipe was documented by an internal inspection team. The deterioration of the steel pipe arch has left it structurally inadequate and project 0082-0323 has been initiated to rehabilitate the bridge.

CTDOT Project No. 0082-0323 was awarded to NJR Construction LLC at a cost of $1,364,458.00 on March 8, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed on October 28, 2024.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
