Night Work: Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00454, I-91 over the Connecticut River, Amtrak Rail Line, Route 159 & South Water Street in Windsor Locks

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the start of night work for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00454, I-91, over the Connecticut River, Amtrak Rail Line, Route, 159, and South Water Street in Windsor Locks starting on January 8 through January 19, 2024. In order to install overhead sign structures, multiple lanes will be closed both in the northbound and southbound directions between exits 42 and 44. Traffic will be stopped periodically for periods up to 10 minutes for installation of major components between midnight and 6 a.m. This project consists of rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00454, steel repairs within the superstructure and existing girders using cover plates and ultra high-performance concrete, bearing replacement, joint replacement, deck repairs, sign structures, and new pavement. 

CTDOT Project No. 0165-0509 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company, Inc of Avon, CT at a cost of $24,230,000.00 on November 9, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed on November 18, 2024. This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 1 in Rocky Hill.

LANE CLOSURE INFO:

Motorists can expect traffic operation impacts/lane closures on I-91 north and southbound, Exits 42 and 44, Route 159 (South Main Street) in Windsor Locks, and South Water Street in East Windsor, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
