The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) is developing plans for the construction of new District 1 headquarters, materials testing lab, signal lab and sign shop facility in Rocky Hill.
The project involves the construction of a new approximately 135,000 square foot facility to support CTDOT operations. The new facility will be constructed on the site of the CTDOT’s existing Materials Testing Lab and Signal Lab. The following operations will occupy the new facility: District 1 (Construction, Surveys, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Bridge Safety), the Materials Testing Lab, the Signal Lab, and the Sign Shop. The existing Materials Testing Lab and Signal Lab will remain functional during the construction of the new facility. Demolition of the existing facility will ensue immediately after CTDOT accepts and occupies the new building.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in January 2025, with construction anticipated to start in the spring 2025, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 100% state funds.
It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development.
