The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing temporary lane closures and ramp detours associated with the milling, paving, and bridge work on I-84 in Southington, Cheshire, Farmington, and West Hartford will start on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
This project consists of milling and overlaying portions of I-84 and associated bridges and ramps (eastbound/westbound between Exit 30 to Exit 27 and eastbound/westbound between Exit 40 and Exit 37). This project also involves reconstruction of deck ends, bridge joint work, membrane, and intersection improvements at the ramp intersections.
CTDOT Project No. 0025-0152 was awarded to Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. at a cost of $15,085,680.00 on January 26, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed October 4, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Starting Sunday, April 7, 2024, with anticipated completion of October 4, 2024, there will be various lane closures and associated short duration ramp detours (detailed below) impacting the following:
I-84 Eastbound/Westbound between Exit 30 to Exit 27
- Sunday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
I-84 Eastbound/Westbound between Exit 40 to Exit 37
- Sunday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Starting Sunday, April 7, 2024, with anticipated completion of October 4, 2024, there will be intermittent, short duration ramps closures required for milling and paving operations between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. as detailed in the following:
Southington and Cheshire Detours
- I-691 westbound Exit 8A off-ramp will be detoured to I-691 westbound Exit 1 to I-84 west Exit 26, back to I-84 eastbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 27 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 west exit 26 westbound back to I-84 eastbound to eastbound Exit 27 to I-691 eastbound.
- I-84 eastbound Exit 28 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 30 back to I-84 westbound to Exit 28.
- I-84 eastbound Exit 28 on-ramp will be detoured to I-84 westbound Exit 28 on-ramp to I-84 westbound Exit 26 back to I-84 eastbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 28 on-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 28 on-ramp to I-84 eastbound Exit 30 back to I-84 westbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 28 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 westbound Exit 26 back to I-84 eastbound Exit 26 back to I-84 eastbound to eastbound Exit 28.
- I-84 eastbound Exit 29 on-ramp will be detoured to I-691 eastbound Exit 7 on-ramp to I-691 Exit 8A back to I-84 eastbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 29 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 westbound Exit 28 to I-691 westbound Exit 7 back to State Route 10.
- I-84 eastbound Exit 30 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 31 to I-84 westbound back to I-84 westbound Exit 30.
- I-84 westbound Exit 30 on-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 31 to I-84 westbound back to I-84 westbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 30 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 westbound Exit 28 to I-84 eastbound back to I-84 eastbound Exit 30.
Farmington and West Hartford Detours
- I-84 westbound Exit 38 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 westbound Exit 37 to Fienemann Road back to State Route 6.
- I-84 eastbound Exit 39 off-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 40 back to I-84 westbound to I-84 westbound Exit 39.
- I-84 westbound Exit 39 on-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 39 on-ramp to I-84 eastbound to I-84 eastbound Exit 40 back to I-84 westbound.
- I-84 westbound Exit 40A on-ramp will be detoured to I-84 eastbound Exit 40B on-ramp to I-84 eastbound to I-84 eastbound Exit 40 back to I-84 westbound.
