Lane Shift on Route 8 in Thomaston

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the scheduled traffic shift on northbound Route 8 after Exit 39 and southbound Route 8 after Exit 40, beginning July 24, 2024.

The southbound lanes will be shifted towards the east and the northbound lanes will be shifted towards the west. The shoulder widths will be shortened to 1 foot.

The lane shifts and shoulder closures are required to perform blasting and metallization of Bridges 03354, 03355, and 03356.

CTDOT Project No. 0140-0178 was awarded to Blast All, Inc., at a cost of $17,357,810.70 on December 31, 2023, and is scheduled to be completed on November 30, 2025.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.

 

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO

The right shoulders will be closed over the bridge span. Temporary precast concrete barriers and sand barrel arrays will be installed to delineate the shoulders and protect the work zones. Advanced warning signs are installed along the shoulder to give motorists and the traveling public advanced notice of the shoulder closures.
