Extended Road Closure and Detour for the Replacement of Bridge 02128 on Route 12 in Thompson

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the originally announced road closure and associated detour that began on Monday, June 17 and ending August 25, 2024, for the replacement of Bridge No. 02128 over Sunset Hill Brook in Thompson will now end on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Contract 0141-0157 consists of the replacement of Bridge No. 02128, Carrying Route 12 Over Sunset Hill Brook in the town of Thompson.  

The contract was awarded to Hammonasset Construction, LLC of Clinton, CT on August 28, 2023 at a cost of $2,673,261.73 and was scheduled to be completed October 17, 2024. Due to unforeseen subsurface conditions, the project is now scheduled to be completed November 13, 2024.

Existing Bridge No. 02128 is a single span concrete cast-in-place bridge, approximately 22’ long with a 27’-8” curb to curb width. The Structure will be replaced with an integral abutment bridge with a 40’ clear span and a 32’ curb to curb width.

 

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

The contractor will not be permitted to perform any work which will require interruptions to traffic on Route 12 as follows during non-road closure times:

  • Sunday through Monday between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

A 70-day road closure and detour was originally implemented starting 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, and ending 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, to remove existing structure and construct new structure, including installation of new full depth paving. Due to unforeseen subsurface conditions, the road closure and detour will be ending 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Route 12 north will be detoured along Route 193 east to Route 200 west to Route 12. Route 12 south will be detoured on Route 200 east to Route 193 west to Route 12.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
