Registered Apprenticeships

More than 6,700 workers in Connecticut are Registered Apprentices working for about 1,800 companies throughout Connecticut. Registered Apprenticeships are the gold standard of apprenticeships—they are federally-backed programs that meet high quality and education standards. Apprentices work in a variety of industries and their training lasts anywhere from two to four years. Then they are certified as masters of their craft—a portable certification that apprentices can take with them to any job in the future.

Becoming a Registered Apprentice requires a few steps:

1. Registered Apprentices start by finding a job at a sponsor company. CTDOL’s Office of Apprenticeship Training does not place people in Registered Apprenticeships.
2. Go to www.ctapprenticeship.com. The excel file labeled “Apprenticeship Sponsor” is a list of all the active sponsor companies, their trades, and where they are located.
3. Start your job search. Contact the companies in your area of interest to see if they have any Registered Apprenticeship job opportunities. Not all of the companies on the Apprenticeship Sponsor list have job openings; some may already have Registered Apprentices; others may be hiring. Remember, CTDOL does not place people in Registered Apprenticeships. It’s up to the worker to get the job. Need resume assistance or want to update your interview skills? An American Job Center can assist you.
4. Once you are hired, employers will enroll you as a Registered Apprentice; this means you will have paid on-the-job training and educational classes. After you complete the program, you will be a master in your trade and you will already be employed.

Got the job? Congratulations!
