Priority List Grant Process – Step 6: Legislative Review and Authorization

Read time: 6 minutes

The Priority List Committee is a legislative committee made up of members of the Connecticut General Assembly, including representatives from the Education Committee, Appropriations Committee, and Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. The committee reviews proposed school construction projects on the Priority List and holds a public hearing in mid-January to gather input before making recommendations.

The Priority List Committee makes changes and/or approves the Priority List by February 1. Then the Priority List is incorporated into a bill by the Education Committee. Once the bill is approved by the legislature and signed by the Governor, the Priority List is authorized and OGA issues grant commitment letters to districts.

What should districts do?

At this stage:

  • Monitor the status of the Priority List during the legislative session.
  • Participate in or follow the public hearing process, if applicable.

What happens next?

  • The General Assembly votes to approve the Priority List.
  • The Governor signs the bill.
  • OGA issues grant commitment letters for approved projects.
