Child support payments are based on the parents’ ability to pay. A parent of a child may receive cash assistance through the Department of Social Services (DSS) while also receiving child support if DSS eligibility requirements allow leaving an outstanding balance. Ex. If child support ordered a parent to pay $100 per month for child support and the caregiver of the child receives $300 in cash assistance, the outstanding liability for both parents would be $200. Specific questions pertaining to your child support status should be directed to the Department of Social Services Office of Child Support Enforcement.
