Welcome to the webpage for Project No. 0173-0539, Rehabilitation of Retaining Walls on Route 53 in Weston.
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.
The proposed project (near Weston Woods Way) will consist of rehabilitating the existing retaining walls on Route 53—Nos. RW-157-053-001 & RW-157-053-002—with a tie-back wall system. The project will also include reconstructing the southbound shoulder to accommodate a wider shoulder and overlaying the section with new pavement. Maintenance and protection of traffic during construction will consist of alternating one-way traffic on the east side of the roadway, with temporary traffic barriers along Route 53, creating a work zone on the west side of the roadway.
Right-of-ay impacts are not anticipated.
Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2028, based on the availability of funding and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 100% state funds.
