Project 0140-0180 Webpage

Welcome to the webpage for Project 140-180, the Replacement of Bridge No. 01846 Carrying Route 222 over Naugatuck Railroad in Thomaston.

A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.

This project involves replacing the current bridge with a new deck unit substructure founded upon reinforced concrete abutments and wingwalls to provide a structure in a state of good repair.  The roadway will also be adjusted to match current design standards and raised to provide additional vertical clearance to the railroad tracks below.

Right-of-way impacts within the project are not anticipated, however temporary access within the Naugatuck Railroad’s right-of-way will be required to complete construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin fall 2028 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $11 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
