Welcome to the webpage for Project 103-283, Replacement of Bridge No. 00273 Carrying Cranberry Pond Road over I-395 in Norwich.
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions.
The project will replace the current structure with a new steel girder bridge that has standard reinforced concrete deck and parapets supported by new reinforced concrete abutments. The roadway profile will be raised to improve the vertical clearance to I-395 below and the approaches will be reconstructed to match the revised bridge width. There are overhead utilities along the north edge of roadway that will require temporary and/or permanent relocation.
Shoulder closures on I-395 will be required and Cranberry Pond Road in the vicinity of the bridge will be closed for the duration of construction. All properties will continue to be accessible through a detour route.
Right-of-way impacts are not anticipated. Construction is anticipated to begin summer 2028 depending on funding, right-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $14 million with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
