Project 0172-0551

Welcome to the webpage for Project No. 0172-0551, Crosswalk Upgrades (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons) Across Eastern Connecticut (District 2) (East Hampton, East Lyme, Groton, Marlborough, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland, and Stonington).

A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on December 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded.

The project involves installing or upgrading Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) assemblies, adding sidewalk landing areas, ramps, and signage, including any necessary excavation work. These features will meet accessibility and traffic control requirements and will enhance safety at pedestrian crossings.

Right-of-way impacts will be minimal; however, construction and/or permanent easements may be needed for RRFB components and/or sidewalk ramps.

Construction is expected to start summer 2028 depending on funding, right(s)-of-way acquisition, and permit(s). The estimated cost is $2.2 million with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.
